Hewlett Packard’s Tip For Working With Cartridges

To protect the cartridges from drying out, always turn the printer off using the Power button.

Do not open or untape cartridges until you are ready to install them. Leaving tape on the cartridges reduces ink evaporation.

Insert the cartridges into the correct slots. Match the color of each cartridge to the colour of the cartridge latch. Make sure the cartridges snap into place.

Align the printer for best print quality.

When the Estimated Cartridge Levels screen in the HP Smart app or the Estimated Levels screen in the printer software shows one or both cartridges in a low state, consider getting replacement cartridges to avoid possible printing delays. You do not need to replace the cartridges until print quality becomes unacceptable.

If you remove a cartridge from the printer for any reason, try to replace it again as soon as possible. When a cartridge is left unprotected outside the printer, its nozzles will dry out and clog up.

Cartridges can be left in the printer for extended periods of time. However, to assure optimal cartridge health, be sure to turn off the printer properly when the printer is not in use.

Press (the Power button) to turn off the printer. Wait until the power light turns off before unplugging the power cord or turning off a power strip.
CAUTION:  If you incorrectly turn the printer off, the print cartridge might not return to the correct position, causing problems with the cartridges and print quality issues.
